On its 60th year, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) formally launched its partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), and Department of Education (DepEd) for their joint community project, Mag-Pinggang Pinoy® Tayo!, with a ceremonial contract signing last June 18, 2018 at Patio Queen Sofia, Valenzuela City.
Present during the contract signing were OIC-Regional Director for DepEd NCR Dr. Wilfredo E. Cabral, OIC-Regional Director for DOH-NCR Dr. Corazon Flores, DOST-FNRI Director Dr. Mario Capanzana, and APC Group Pres. Sakakura.
APC Group President Ichiro Sakakura shared that Mag-Pinggang Pinoy® Tayo! was conceived as an Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV) initiative, designed to address the issue of the Double Burden of Malnutrition among Filipino children and to “reinforce our commitment to bring more value to Philippine society through Ajinomoto’s own technologies, talents, products, and services.”
The public-private alliance aims to reach out to 2,500 households represented by moms in 15 barangays within Caloocan, Malabon, and Navotas; and in 5 Quezon City schools – areas where there are high incidence of the Double Burden of Malnutrition.
The technical working group, led by its chairman former DOH Secretary Dr. Paulyn Jean Ubial, convened representatives from the four institutions to develop modules for moms, barangay health workers and barangay nutrition scholars to educate each group on the causes and effects of the Double Burden of Malnutrition and how Pinggang Pinoy® combined with Ajinomoto’s delicious, healthy, and budget-friendly recipes can be used to address it.
A livelihood phase will follow the lectures to add to the income needed to support each Filipino family’s nutritional needs.
At the event, Pres. Sakakura expressed his gratitude to the group. “We hope that we can all work together in empowering homemakers to provide healthy and delicious meals, and to provide good health and happiness to Filipino families.”
