When Ajinomoto Co., Inc. celebrated its 90th anniversary in 1999, the Company decided to put into effect a Global Corporate Citizenship Program to extend its corporate social responsibility programs to global reach. This is on top of the local corporate citizenship activities of each affiliates.

The Philippines is fortunate to be one of the four countries (the others being Indonesia, Cambodia and Peru) to have been chosen as part of Ajinomoto's global program for corporate social responsibility. In the Philippines, the following programs have been conducted :

  1. Philippines Integrated Project on Reproductive Health and Nutrition, in coordination with the Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) covering Batangas Province for the purpose of providing management and technical support to enhance local government capabilities, provide training for service providers (doctors, nurses, midwives, health volunteers, etc) and to supply educational materials, scales and supplementary foods for malnourished children. Expanding to its 2nd phase called the Philippines Community-operated Reproductive Health (CoRH), area of coverage has been expanded from 6 to 9 model towns in Batangas.

    Nutrition Improvement Project and the Establishment of a Child-Care Center and support for Feeding Centers in coordination with local NGO Lingap Para sa Kalusugan ng Sambayanan, Inc (LIKAS, Inc) in Irosin, Sorsogon to support the construction and operation of a child-care center, to conduct feeding programs for malnourished children and to provide information and educational materials for nutrition education.

  2. Research and Development for a Community-based Nutrition Education Model in coordination with Food and Research Institute (FNRI) for the purpose of researching local needs, developing educational materials, sponsoring various workshops for developing nutrition education models and implementing and evaluating plans based on the models with Mindanao serving as the study site.

    Ajinomoto has an environment protection program. It launched the Ajinomoto Group Zero Emissions by establishing an environmental management system and stringently complying with laws and regulations all over the world. The Group Zero Emission project is aimed at eliminating every environmental load from all business aspects of the Ajinomoto group. It strives to reduce wastewater and minimize the generation of waste and by-products, while improving the resource recovery ratio.

     

     

     

     

From global efforts to local undertakings, APC on its own carries the torch of social corporate responsibility in the areas of nutrition and health through the following programs:

  1. Sharing for better homemaking activities by the Ajinomoto Cooking Plaza (ACP) through cooking demos, provision of recipes and other cooking promotion activities.



  2. Partnership with government agencies for the promotion of nutrition programs and activities.
  3. Previous efforts in providing educational scholarship to nutrition students.
  4. Local community partnership and support for health & nutrition, sports & recreation and calamity situations.
