About the Grant

The Ajinomoto Post Graduate Scholarship Grant seeks to help deserving Filipino students who require financial assistance to pursue a continuing education. This grant gives a full scholarship in one of the graduate schools in the field of science and technology at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

Scholarship Eligibility

Application to the Ajinomoto Post Graduate Scholarship Grant must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must be a Filipino citizen.
  2. Must be under the age of 35 on April 1, 2018.
  3. Must have graduated or is expected to graduate by April 2017 (preferably with over 15 years of education completed or expected to be completed).
  4. Must show financial need to pursue higher education.
  5. Must have excellent academic record.
  6. Must be able to obtain approval of acceptance from the University of Tokyo and be a registered student for April 2018 or October 2018.
  7. Must have adequate Japanese language proficiency that is required in order to research and study as a master’s course student of the University of Tokyo.
  8. Must apply from the Philippines and be able to attend selection procedures when necessary.
  9. Must have a strong sense of nationalism, leadership and motivation.
  10. Must be in good physical and mental health.
  11. Must not be receiving other scholarships.

Benefits

  1. ¥150,000 (approximately PHP 60,000) monthly allowance for a maximum of 1 year as a research student at a graduate school
  2. ¥180,000 (approximately PHP 70,000) monthly allowance for a maximum of 2 years as a master’s course student at a graduate school
  3. Full coverage of examination, admission and tuition fees
  4. Full coverage of Japanese language training before going to Japan
  5. Full coverage of airfare to Japan

Duration

  1. If the recipient enrolls as a research student, scholarship will be provided for a maximum of 3 years (1 year as a research student and maximum of 2 years as a master’s course student). The scholarship will be suspended if the recipient fails to pass the entrance exam for a master’s course within a year after arriving in Japan.
  2. If the recipient enrolls as a master’s course student, scholarship will be provided for a maximum of 2 years.

Number of Students to be Accepted

One (1) student from each of the six (6) countries: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Russia.

Graduate Schools

Applicant can enroll either as a research student first or directly as a master’s course student in one of the courses, except medicine and veterinary medicine, of the graduate schools of the University of Tokyo.

  1. Applicant may enroll either as a research student or directly as a master’s course student for Graduate School of Engineering, Information Science and Technology, Frontier Science, and Science.
  2. Applicant may only enroll as a research student for Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Science and Agricultural and Life Science.
  3. Applicant may only directly enroll as a master’s course student for Graduate School of Mathematical Science and ITASIA* of Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies.
  4. ITASIA is a program in English language and may enroll in October only.
  5. Graduate School of Science, Engineering, Agricultural and Life Science and Frontier Science have special program in English. Confirm the details for applying in the University of Tokyo website.

Deadline of application: March 3, 2017

Conditions:

The scholarship will be suspended or terminated, if any of the following conditions applies to the scholarship recipient:

  1. Provides false information on the application forms.
  2. Receives any other scholarship.
  3. Fails to pass the entrance examination to a master’s course at the University of Tokyo within one year after arriving in Japan (recipient who enters as a Research Student).
  4. Fails to arrive in Japan by the appointed date.
  5. Shows poor academic performance due to absence, lack of desire to study or inability to keep up research for some reason
  6. Has difficulty in continuing studies due to illness or other health problems.
  7. Violates the rules and regulations of the University of Tokyo or the Ajinomoto Scholarship Foundation.

Depending on the circumstance/s, the scholarship amount already disbursed may be subject to full or partial payment.
