Ajinomoto holds Energization Ceremony to signal solar power operations in Bulacan plant

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC Group) conducted an energization ceremony on June 1, 2022 to prompt the introduction of solar power energy in Ajinomoto Philippines Flavor Food Inc factory in Guiguinto,Bulacan.

The factory-wide eco-conscious project is in partnership with Meralco-owned solar company Spectrum and officially started earlier this year in February. Just a few months after the construction of the solar project, the installation was energized and is projected to generate about 1,331,500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy every year. With this in motion, the  Ajinomoto factory is expected to reduce its carbon footprint by about 950 tonnes which is equivalent to planting 2 million trees over 20 years or reducing 3,800,000 km in vehicle travel per year.

“We, at Ajinomoto, are proud of the steps that we are taking as an advocate for environmental wellness. Introducing solar energy to our Bulacan plant is just the beginning of the many environmental projects that we have in our sustainability roadmap,” said APC Group Associate Director and Chief Sustainability Officer Ernesto Carlos.

These eco-conscious activities are part of achieving the two grand goals of the Ajinomoto Group of Companies— to help extend the healthy life expectancy of 1 billion people around the world and to reduce the brand’s environmental impact by 50%. These goals and initiatives tie up to the Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV), an umbrella framework dedicated to using the company’s knowledge and resources to address social issues such as environmental sustainability.

“Through our shared sustainability mindset, Spectrum’s solar expertise and capabilities enables transformation of the way businesses operate. We are looking forward to partnering with more businesses like Ajinomoto towards a brighter, greener, and more sustainable future with solar energy,” said Spectrum President Mr. Ferdinand Geluz.

“The APC Group is committed to providing products and services that contribute to delicious and nutritionally balanced diets while promoting the reduction of greenhouse gasses, plastic waste, food loss, and other environmental concerns that come along with business operations,” said APC Group President Tsutomu Nara. “We are determined to consistently deliver quality products that are good for the consumer, the business, and the environment.”
